Working together for a better world...
Excuse this being a brief blog post, but an overnight flight after three full days has left me more ready for sleep than writing.
It has indeed been a full three days - hard to believe that it was only Tuesday when I set out for Heathrow. Bob dropped me at the leicester bus station and I caught the flightlink coach. The flight was 11 hours, leaving at 10,00pm and arriving in mid afternoon Bangkok time. It was in the departure lounge that I bumped into another participant, Angela, whom I have known for some years. We spent the time prior to the flight catching up, but found ourselves seated in different parts of the plane.
At Bangkok it turned out that about eight of us had in fact been on the same flight, so we were soon being ushered together into a minibus to the hotel where we were to stay - which turned out to be very comfortable and well appointed.
The conference had been postponed since December because of the floods in Bangkok, so it had been amalgamated with Wessak celebrations. This meant that the first day was largely taken up with ceremonial and congratulatory speeches in the first morning. The princess of Thailand attended to open proceedings in the vast hall where events took place.
Presentations were made on the second day. I was presenting as part of the Psychotherapy panel. There were a number of excellent presentations - summaries of the papers submitted earlier in the year which are assembled in the conference books which can be read on line http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.undv.org%2Fvesak20...
The most enjoyable part of the conference was however meeting a really interesting bunch of people and although the event had been short and sometimes frustrating I left with a warm enthusiasm, a list of email addresses of people to contact, and some ideas for future collaboration. So I hit the midnight flight and arrived back into a damp, grey Heathrow at 6.00am. Catching the early coach back to Leicester it was hard to believe it was only five days since I departed.
