Richard Meyers

It was with deep shock and sadness that I heard today of the sudden death of Richard Meyers at the weekend. Our thoughts here at The Buddhist House are with him and with his wife Ruth.

Therapists Forum on the 16th of November

I would just like to let everyone know that we will be having a therapist's forum at the Buddhist House on Saturday, the 16th of November which will feature Margaret Meyer, a Gestalt therapist from Henley-on-Thames. Margaret has a great interest in the use of metaphor in therapy and she will be leading a discussion that will touch on this and related themes. The forums we have held in the past have always proven to be lively talking shops where ideas can be freely exchanged and debated.…

We hope to build on the success of the past two silent retreats that have been held at the Buddhist House. Ian Finlay led a similar retreat several months ago and many of the people who came to his…

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland - paper presented at European Shin Conference 2012

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland

Since the time of the Buddha people have looked to Buddhism as a source of salvation from their unhappiness and confusion. In the modern age, psychotherapy has become a route which many people choose to help them face and move beyond their personal suffering. Not surprisingly many Western therapists tend to gravitate towards Buddhist ideas and, conversely, Buddhists are often interested in exploring how their faith…
