Hi everyone, I'm hoping to start ward visiting soon.  I have done the hospital's course (Queen's Medical Centre Nottingham) and now need to wait for my police checks to be completed.  Once I have some experience I hope to join the Chaplaincy course in Birmingham in September.

Great. That's really good to hear. There will be a possibility of joining the training at Narborough in June by the way if you or anyone else wants to - I have a couple of latecomers already interested.

Caroline, thank you for the membership approval and for the introductory course in chaplaincy. It's very helpful. Up until now I never treated terminally ill people. A month ago a patient of mine asked me to meet her cousin who has cancer, just to give her some hope and ideas how to proceed (the lady refused chemo). We talked, she didn't mention the word cancer not even once, which means that she is afraid and surely not ready to die. She felt better and more relaxed and I promised her that I'll be there for her and that no-cure is path as any other. Now she calls me once a week, I promised her that we will meditate together, gave her some texts to read about mindfulness meditation and maybe it's time to meet her again. I only hope that I will be ready enough to help her in the months ahead.

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland - paper presented at European Shin Conference 2012

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland

Since the time of the Buddha people have looked to Buddhism as a source of salvation from their unhappiness and confusion. In the modern age, psychotherapy has become a route which many people choose to help them face and move beyond their personal suffering. Not surprisingly many Western therapists tend to gravitate towards Buddhist ideas and, conversely, Buddhists are often interested in exploring how their faith…

I wrote this article for Running Tide back in January but it didnt get published and as Running Tide has only just come out, things had obviously moved on. I'm putting it up here because it seems like a pity to waste a good article - or even a mediocre one!
