Event Description

June 10-11 Engaged Practice: Vibrancy & Embedded Living Narborough

Our relationship to the environment is not simply theoretical or psychological. It involves our whole being. This is why environmental therapy is particularly beneficial, addressing the person in a holistic way. This final weekend of the core sequence addresses our relationship to the world in more practical ways than the previous weekends, but nonetheless is important in its therapeutic implications. The concept of vibrancy reflects our energetic relationship with life. Some outdoor work involves strenuous activity in which the participants are pitted against the landscape, weather and their own physical limitations. Other work, though more gentle, still involves experiencing different energetic states: stillness and activity, challenge and mindful body attention. At the same time, awareness of the global context of the work, and the impact which individual choices make on the environment and in influencing others all have effect both in terms of individual psychology and in terms of the collective well-being of humans and the planet. This weekend will include investigation of these matters and will also address issues of safety, ethics and responsibility.

In the modern age, psychotherapy has become a route which many people choose to help them face and move beyond their personal suffering. Not surprisingly many Western therapists tend to gravitate towards Buddhist ideas and, conversely, Buddhists are often interested in exploring how their faith…

Running Tide Article

I wrote this article for Running Tide back in January but it didnt get published and as Running Tide has only just come out, things had obviously moved on. I'm putting it up here because it seems like a pity to waste a good article - or even a mediocre one!
