Event Description

Online Unit: Groupwork Skills for Ecotherapy

July 20-Aug 14  (20 hours)

Many people who work therapeutically outdoors work with groups. Groupwork takes many forms, and can bring together concepts from a number of sources. This online learning unit is packed with practical ideas for working with a variety of groups and will be suitable for anyone who want to run groups, whether these are therapeutic, educational, community or personal growth workshops. We will look at the practicalities of setting up a group, including decisions about recruitment and membership, settings, groundrules and boundaries. We will look at structured and unstructured sessions, facilitation style and group process. We will look at co-facilitation. We will explore ways to approach difficulties that might arise. In addition to these areas, we will look at different types of group activity and at ways to structure sessions around these.

This 21 day course follows a similar format to other Ten Directions online units, offering daily exercises to help you explore themes related to the topic. Students will post short daily responses on a shared group and will receive feedback and be able to comment on one another's work.

Unit cost for those who are not registered Ten Directions students £130

There will be an optional online seminar for students taking this programme which will give space to discuss particular contexts or queries.

Online seminar: Working with Ecotherapy Groups

August 8th 10.00-12.00 (2 hours)

This seminar will be held on Zoom and places will be limited to those who are taking the groupwork unit above. Cost of seminar £20

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland - paper presented at European Shin Conference 2012

Grounded in Faith: Psychotherapy and Pureland

Since the time of the Buddha people have looked to Buddhism as a source of salvation from their unhappiness and confusion. In the modern age, psychotherapy has become a route which many people choose to help them face and move beyond their personal suffering. Not surprisingly many Western therapists tend to gravitate towards Buddhist ideas and, conversely, Buddhists are often interested in exploring how their faith…

Running Tide Article

I wrote this article for Running Tide back in January but it didnt get published and as Running Tide has only just come out, things had obviously moved on. I'm putting it up here because it seems like a pity to waste a good article - or even a mediocre one!
